Platform Engineering Lab: Automation & Observability
A safe environment for learning operational patterns before recommending them
An infrastructure-as-code lab for repeatable server setup, inventory discovery, monitoring, backups, validation, and operational automation. It is presented as learning and experimentation—not as a production-hardened or highly available environment.

The problem
Start with the constraint.
Operational tooling is easier to recommend responsibly when the failure modes, setup burden, and recovery paths have been explored hands-on.
What I contributed
- Built reusable automation for setup, hardening, monitoring, backup, and validation experiments.
- Used inventory discovery and playbook sequencing to practice repeatable operations.
- Kept the public story focused on learning patterns rather than publishing topology.
Sanitized architecture
A phased automation flow moves from discovery and hardening into core services, monitoring, backup, and validation.
Discovery
Inventory and environment information for targeting automation.
Automation
Reusable roles and playbooks for setup and hardening.
Signals
Monitoring, exporters, and basic alert-rule experiments.
Recovery
Backup configuration and retention patterns.
Quality & operations
How the work is made operable.
- Validate infrastructure changes as a workflow, not only as a manual checklist.
Lessons
What carries forward.
- A lab is valuable when it creates better questions before production decisions are made.
